NON HEART PATIENTS HOW DO I BEGIN?

The key to a successful program is choosing an activity (or activities) that you will enjoy. Even moderate levels of activity have important health benefits. Here are some questions that can help you choose the right kind of activity. 1.        How physically fit are you? If you’ve been inactive for a while, you may want to start with walking or swimming at a comfortable pace. KNOW YOUR BYPASS SURGERY (DO YOU NEED THIS MUTILATION?)

Image
HOW THE BYPASS SURGERY IS DONE          As soon as a patient is diagnosed of having angina or heart attack, the doctor knows that minimal 70% blockage is atleast present. Now the patient is asked to go for Angiography to know the location and extent of the blockages. After this, he is asked for surgery i.e. either bypass or angioplasty . The patient who agrees for CABG has to give his consent and the surgery follows. The basic steps of bypass surgery are: Patient is first prepared i.e. the chest is shaved and cleaned and so is the leg or arms from where another tube for replacement has to be removed. The tube can also be removed from the chest. After anaesthesia with surgical knife skin and muscles in front of the chest are cut open. Then with a surgical saw, anterior chest bone is also cut. WHAT HAPPENS DURING STENTING?

Image
The stenting procedure takes place in a catheterization laboratory. To the patient, the “cath. Lab.” may resemble an operating room with its many monitoring devices, video displays and x-ray cameras. The patient will lie down on a table under an x-ray camera. He or she will be given a mild sedative and remain awake but relaxed for the duration of the procedure. Once the patient is comfortable, heart monitoring begins, an intravenous line (IV) is established and the area where the sheath is to be inserted is made sterile and locally anesthetized. The majority of stent procedures are performed via the femoral artery in the groin. However, the brachial artery in the arm or the radial artery in the wrist can be utilized as well. The injection of the local anesthesia may result in discomfort. An anticoagulant is then administered through the IV to prevent blood clot formation within the artery during the procedure. The guiding catheter is then advanced through the sheath to the heart and i...

HOMOCYSTEINE: A METABOLIC TOXIN

Image
Homocysteine is produced during the normal metabolism of methionine, an amino acid found protein. Although the body utilizes small amounts of homocysteine, it becomes toxic when levels are elevated (above 8 mmol/l). Fortunately, your body has an efficient means of detoxifying and eliminating excesses of homocysteine as well as other cellular toxins: a process called methylation. Methylation is one of your body’s house cleaning services. It is as important to a healthy body as cleaning to the maintenance of your home. If you never washed the dishes, vacuumed the carpets, or dusted, your home would deteriorate beyond repair. In a similar fashion, without adequate methylation in your body, homocysteine and other metabolic by products build up, initiating and accelerating not only atherosclerosis but also Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and other maladies. Homocysteine is extremely damaging to the arteries. It decreases the production of nitric oxide, which protects the endothelium by preve...
